Repairs and Notifications
Honda will replace affected vehicles’ steering components and adjust their lubrication to address the steering defect. By mid-November, owners will receive official notification to arrange for free repairs from authorized dealers who will replace the worm gear spring. Corrective measures include an updated steering gearbox with revised specifications to reduce friction.
“Increased friction between the worm gear and worm wheel can increase steering effort and difficulty, increasing the risk of a crash or injury,” the recall states.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was instrumental in assessing the defect, initiating a preliminary evaluation in March 2023. In November 2023, this was upgraded to engineering analysis. Following the NHTSA investigation, Honda committed to ensuring vehicle safety, which necessitated the recall.
