A 29-year-old man faces multiple charges after stealing a military-style vehicle and leading Utica police on a destructive chase through city streets that left two officers injured and caused widespread property damage.
Reckless Rampage Through Utica Streets
Daniel Passino-Brazeau took control of the military-style vehicle and led law enforcement on a dangerous pursuit through Utica’s Genesee Street corridor. The chase caused significant destruction as the stolen vehicle struck multiple objects including trees and other property along the 1600 block of Oneida Street. Witnesses reported seeing the heavy vehicle careening through neighborhoods, narrowly missing pedestrians and causing panic among residents. The pursuit ended only after the vehicle sustained enough damage to become inoperable, allowing officers to apprehend the suspect.
Officers Injured in Apprehension
Two Utica police officers sustained injuries during the chaotic chase and subsequent arrest of Passino-Brazeau. The extent of their injuries has not been fully disclosed, but both required medical attention. A security officer and at least one pedestrian were also caught in the mayhem, though specific details about their conditions remain limited. The incident forced temporary road closures along major thoroughfares as emergency responders secured the scene and documented the extensive damage trail left by the stolen military vehicle.
Suspect Faces Serious Charges
Authorities arrested Passino-Brazeau at the scene and charged him with multiple offenses including vehicle theft and driving while intoxicated. The 29-year-old now faces additional charges related to the property damage, endangering pedestrians, and assaulting officers during the pursuit. Police have not disclosed how Passino-Brazeau gained access to the military-style vehicle or where it was originally stored. The investigation continues as authorities assess the full scope of damages and potential additional charges. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about vehicle security and the dangers posed by impaired drivers operating heavy machinery through residential areas.
